The primary objective of the current study was to find out to which extend the carbohydrate metabolism was affected in Bovine Leukemia Virus (BLV) positive cows by measuring the blood levels of L-lactate, pyruvate, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and transketolase.

5 BLV positive and 10 BLV negative cows were used.

The average levels of the parameters in BLV positive cows stated above were found to be insignificantly lower than that found in BLV negatives. The carbohydrate metabolism in BLV positive cows did not appear to be altered.
