Foot Diseases and the Treatment Trials in Cattle Admitted to Our Clinics Between 1994-1998

The current study was conducted on a total of 206 cattle consisting of 97 Brown Swiss (47.1 %), 69 Holstein (Fresian) (33.5 %), 25 Simmental (12.1 %) and 15 national breeds (7.3 %) admitted to Veterinary Faculty Clinics at the University of Fırat or treated in Fırat University Research and Practice Farm between 1994-1998. The cases and their frequencies were as follows: Overgrown and deformed nail 41.7%, panaritium 1.9 %, soft tissue damage and oedema in plantar part of regiones digitorum pedis 4.4 %, atent 2.9 %, coronary flegmon 2.4 %, bruised heel 9.2 %, Rusterholz’ s specific traumatic ulcus of sole 13.6 %, limax 3.4 %, interdigital dermatitis 3.4 %, interdigital papillamatosis 0.5 %, fourbure 0.5 %, sole abscess 2.9 %, exungulation 0.5 %, cracked nail 1.5 % and diseases of linea alba 11.2 %.

Following the identification of the lesions, the treatments were conducted in accordance with the known methods.

In the present study, it was aimed to investigate the most common cause and the incidence of the foot disease and the outcome of the conventional treatment trials in cattle admitted to our clinics. As result, it was observed that the presence foot diseases in cattle in and around Elazığ Province was still an important problem.
