This study was conducted to investigate the effects of soybean and cottonseed meal on semen characteristics and circumference, length, diameter and size of testes in rams.

Ten Akkaraman rams constituted the material of this study. The rams were given diets containing soybean and cottonseed meal thirty five days prior to the beginning of the study. 10 ejaculates were collected twice a week from each ram using an electroejaculation.

The average values of semen volume, spermatozoa concentration, spermatozoa motility and abnormal spermatozoa were 0.48 ± 0,03 ml, 131.9 ± 16.4 x107/ml, 69.60 ± 4.5 % and 12.19 ± 2 % respectively in rams fed with cottonseed . The average values of these parameters were 0.48 ± 0.01 ml, 86.4 ± 10.8x 10 7/ml, 54.4 ± 8.54 % and 18.1 ± 0.98 % respectively in rams fed with soybean.

The average values of scrotum circumference, length, diameter and size of testes were 27.60 cm, 9.08 cm, 5.12 cm and 494 ml respectively in rams fed with cottonseed. The average values of these parameters were 23.40 cm, 7.76 cm, 4.24 cm and 411ml respectively in rams fed with soybean.

There was no significant difference between groups for sperm motility, semen volume, length, diameter and size of testes (P>0.05). However there were significant differences between groups for sperm concentration (P<0.01), proportion of abnormal sperm and testis circumference (P<0.05).
