The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of oxytocin on conception rate in cows. The investigation was carried out in thirty-four healthy cows. Cows were allotted randomly to treatment or control group when found to be in estrus. The treatment group was treated with 50 IU of oxytocin, while the control group was given saline (5 ml) intramuscularly 5 min. before artificial insemination. Animals were observed for repeat estrus, and pregnancy diagnoses were made by rectal palpation 45 days after AI. The conception rates were 76.4 and 58. 8 per cent in the treatment and control groups, respectively. 50 IU oxytocin injections intramuscularly 5 min. before artificial insemination led to an improvement of 17.6% in conception rate.
