The purpose of this study is to reasearch if a single dose of bee-pollen administration has an effect on maximum oxygen consumption VO2max. and blood parameters (serum cholesterol, serum glucose, serum triglycerid, HDL-C (High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol), LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein), total protein (Albumin and Globulin)) of endurance athletes. Subjects of this study were selected from athletes who were performed endurance type of exercise on a regular basis. Twelve voluntarily subjects ages 21-26 were participated the study. Each subject received two treatments in cross-over fashion and was assigned randomly and in a double-blind order to either bee-pollen (15 mg) group or placebo group. During the study phase, meals or drinks were not taken in order to avoid interactions of the studied substances with food. Twelve minutes run-walk test was performed and blood samples were taken after the 5 hours of ingestion of the bee-pollen. 12min. cooper test results are recorded and VO2max. value for twelve minutes run-walk test was counted at the end of the study. Blood samples were taken before and 5 hours after the bee-pollen or placebo ingestion. The effects of 15mg bee-pollen on 12min. cooper test results, VO2max. value, the blood lipid parameters, HDL-C, LDL, total protein, the blood cholesterol and the blood glucose are collected after 5 hours. For statistical evaluation, the data were analyzed by the Wilcoxon signed rank test. Significance level was set at p<0.05.

As a result, the bee-pollen administration has a positive effect on VO2 max. (p<0.04) and 12min. cooper test results (p<0.04). On the other hand, there are no significance differences between the bee-pollen group and placebo group on the blood parameters of endurance athletes.
