Keywords: Leprosy, IL-4, IFN-γ, C3

Leprosy is a chronic diseases. Agent Mycobacterium leprae (M.leprae) is an intracellular bacteria Th1 response at tuberculoid type and Th2 response at lepromatous type is dominant. IFN-γ is the spesific indicator of Th1 response. IL-4 is released at Th2 response. C3 levels reduce clearly Erytema Nodosum Leprosum (ENL). There aren’t any important changes C3 levels in the lepromatous leprosy at the stages of activation and recovery.

In this study, it was aimed to bring up immun response profile in lepromatous leprosy patients who are being treated and have neurologic dysfunction and many organs amputation.

Work group was constitued from 50 lepromatous leprosy patients whose ages were changing from 15 to 70. Control group was constitued from 45 healty individuals whose ages were changing from 18 to 70. C3 (P< 0.05) and IFN-γ levels (P< 0.001) were meaningfully higher in control group and IL-4 levels(P< 0.05) in patient group. C4 levels were not different both of groups. In addition, the important correlation were between C3 and C4 levels (r= 0.281).

In conclusion, it was determined that Th2 polarisation, IL-4 levels increased and C3 levels decreased clearly in patients with lepromatous leprosy in long period. There was no important difference in the C4 levels.
