Fattening Performance and Carcass Characteristics of Pure Hair Goat and Saanen x Pure Hair Goat (F1)

This study was carried out to examine the fattening performance, carcass characteristics, organoleptic characteristics of meat in Pure Hair goats and Saanen x Pure Hair goats (F1) crossbreed kids.

At this study, 19 pure and 15 crossbred (F1) male kids for the fattening period; 8 head for the carcass characteristics and 4 head for sensory characteristics from each groups were used. The kids were put the fattening at about live weight of 22 kg and rough and concentrate feeds consumed by kids were recorded during the fattening. Fattening period were lasted 98 days and afterwards they were slaughtered to investigate the charcass characteristics. GLM (General Linear Model) was used to compare the fattening and carcass characteristics, Mann- Whitney U test was used for organoleptic characteristics of meats and no statistical analyse was used for feed conversation characteristics.

Average values pure and F1 crossbreds during fattening period were 0.123 and 0.108 kg for daily live weight gain, 8.83, 1.76 kg and 10.27, 1.81 kg for feed conversion of concetrate and roughage feed, for dressing persentages 47.32 and 48.38 %, respectively. There were no significant difference between groups in organoleptic characteristics of meats.

Results of this study indicated that in the investigated traits Pure Hair goats and Saanen x Pure Hair goats (F1) crossbreeds were similar.
