Incidence and Pathology of Renal Hydatidosis in Sheep and Goats

In this study, it was aimed to investigate the incidence and pathology of hydatidosis of kidney in sheep and goats which slaughtered at Elazığ abattoirs. For this purpose, the kidneys of 9.020 sheep and 13.220 goat from different breeds were examined macroscopically for hydatidosis. As a result of these examinations; hydatic cysts were determined in the kidneys of 81 sheep (0.89%) and 13 goats (0.098%). Eight of the sheep (9.88%) with hydatic cysts were male and 73 (90.12%) were female and the cysts in kidneys were observed in right (30 cases, 37.03%), left (51 cases, 62.97%) and bilateral (4 cases, 4.93%) location. Also 59 cases (72.84%) with unilocular cysts, 10 cases (12.34%) with multycystic cysts and 12 cases (14.82%) with calcified nodules were observed in sheep. Two of the goats (15.39%) with hydatic cysts were male and 11 (84.61%) were female and cysts in the kidneys which were observed in right (4 cases, 30.77%) and left (9 cases, 69.23%) location. Eleven cases (84.61%) with unilocular cysts, 2 cases (15.39%) with calcified nodules were also observed in goats.
