The General Structure and Economic Dimension of Dairy Cattle Farms at Central District in Kars Province

In this study, the overall structure status of barn and milking techniques in dairy cattle farm at the central district of Kars were evaluated. Data was collected by questionnaires conducted face to face with 162 livestock producers and observations. The mean age and the mean values of the barn used by the livestock producers were found as 18.7 years and 29.357 TL, respectively, and the annual maintenance cost of 313.70 TL. The survey also revealed that closed and connected barn systems (95.1%) and semi-opened barn system (4.9%) have been preferred. The results indicated that hand milking is the most common method (78.4%). Cleaning udder at pre-milking stage was found to be 52.5%. As a result, in order to ensure an economic benefit with the structure of barn, milking technology and milking hygiene in dairy cattle farms at the district of Kars, it is advisable to train the farmers.
