Objective Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease with high lifetime mortality and morbidity. In this study, it was aimed to determine the effects of TRPM2 and TRPM7 ion channels, which are known to be associated with oxidative damage in liver tissue, on the physiopathology of the disease in a streptozotocin-induced diabetes model.
Materials and Methods: In the study, 21 male Wistar Albino rats were divided into 3 groups as control group, buffer group and diabetic group. At the end of the experiment, after the rats were decapitated under anesthesia, their liver tissues were subjected to routine histological follow-up series and embedded in paraffin blocks. The immunoreactivity of TRPM2 and TRPM7 ion channels was evaluated by applying the avidin-biotin peroxidase method to the sections taken from paraffin blocks with a thickness of 4–6 μm. Results: TRPM2 and TRPM7 expression were similar in the control and buffer groups. TRPM2 and TRPM7 expressions were increased in diabetic liver tissues compared to the control group. Conclusion: It was thought that TRPM2 and TRPM7 ion channels may mediate histopathological changes in diabetic liver tissue. |
