Keywords: In Vitro Activities of Quinopristin/Dalfopristin and Eight Other Antimicrobial Agents against Gram Positive Cocci |
Quinopristin/dalfopristin is the first parenteral streptogramin antibiotic. In this study, we aimed to investigate in vitro activity of quinopristin/dalfopristin and the other widely used eight antibiotics against Gram positive cocci.
Seventy-one Staphylococcus aureus, 97 coagulase negative staphylococci, 74 enterococci and 58 streptococci which were identified species level using standard bacteriologic method, were included in the study. Antibiotic susceptibility of these strain against Quinopristin/dalfopristin and other antimicrobial agents were investigated using disc diffusion method. The all of S. aureus and coagulase negative staphylococci, 13.6% of E. faecalis strains and 72.7% of E. faecium strains were detected as susceptible to quinopristin/dalfopristin. Vancomycin and teikoplanin were detected most active antibiotic against Gram positive cocci amongst other antimicrobial agents. Quinopristin/dalfopristin combination might be as an alternative agent for treatment of infections due to resistant Gram positive bacteriae. |
