A 2-years-old, intact female Chow Chow referred to Animal Hospital of Veterinary Faculty with bilateral alopecia in caudal aspect of the hind limbs, recurrent pollakuria, stranguria and estrus cycle abnormality. Bilateral symetric alopecia and hyperpigmentation were determined over the caudal aspect of hind limbs during clinical examination. Estrus cycle abnormality was confirmed with vaginal smear. Hormonal evaluation revealed estradiol levels as 5 ng/dL in diestrus. Reproductive ultrasonography demonstrated no problem. Microbiological evaluation of urine samples revealed the presence of Proteus mirabilis and E. coli. Urinary tract infection was treated with Enrofloxacin (5 mg/kg, subcutaneously) for 14 days. Estradiol level was determined as 800 ng/dL during estrus and bilateral alopecia has spontaneously disappeared. Although estrogen responsive dermatosis causes alopecia and recurrent cystitis in neutered female dogs; it may be seen in intact females with estrus cycle abnormality as well.
