Medical Students’ Opinions on Anatomy Exams

Objective: This study was designed to assess the evaluation of the anatomy exams by medical students attending anatomy courses recently at the end of the academic year 2013-2014.

Materials and Methods: The descriptive type study was conducted on the first and second year students of four medical schools. In this study, the opinions of 818 medical students on their anatomy exams were evaluated and it was attempted to receive some comments on how the exams should be. Data was collected by using a questionnaire in the form of Likert scale and evaluated by SPSS 18.0 software. The students’ questionnaire form consisted of 12 items. Values are expressed as mean and percentage.

Results: 133, 222, 142 and 321 medical students, respectively, from Balıkesir University Medical School, Kocatepe University Medical School Namık Kemal University Medical School and Erciyes University Medical School were attended to the study. As for the exams, 45.6% of the students considered the theoretical exams and 74.7% the practical exams as well planned, 35.3% had the opinion that theoretical exams questions were clear and easy to understand, while 42% were thinking that practical exams questions were clear and easy to understand. Multiple choice and assay type mixed examination was preferred by 12.5%.

Conclusion: The results of this study show students’ opinions on anatomy exams. In order to improve and open new horizons in medical education, students’ evaluations and feedbacks are very important. This study containing the opinions of the students is presented in order to help anatomy education.
