Neuroacanthocytosis syndromes are characterized by detection of acanthocytes in peripheral blood smear with variable age of onset, and multisystemic effects especially on the central nervous system and particularly progressive degeneration of the basal ganglia. McLeod is one of the genetic based neuroacanthocytosis syndrome that can lead to a variety of neuropsychiatric symptoms in patients. In this case we report a patient presenting involuntary biting of his cheek admitted to our hospital neurology inpatient clinic, was consulted by us because of the possible psychogenic cause of the symptom and was operated because of developed dysplasia due to probable biting of the lips 1 year ago and putting many substances such as piece of cloth, chewing gum in her mouth to prevent bites. In her clinical follow-up development of depressive symptoms was observed and partially successful treatment of depressive symptoms and involuntary cheek biting was performed with aripiprazole 10 mg/day. We aimed to discuss the neuropsychiatric symptoms and treatment strategies of the symptoms that can be seen in acanthocytosis syndromes.
