Keywords: Obsessive compulsive disorder, prolactin, PRL, serum

Objective: Although there are close relationships among obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), serotonergic system, dopaminergic system and prolactin (PRL), limited number of studies has examined the PRL values in the OCD. In the present study, we aimed to measure PRL values of the patients with OCD and hypothesized that the PRL levels would change in OCD patients.

Materials and Methods: The patients whose PRL levels were measured and who met the inclusion criteria were included into the study. In this context, twenty patients were included into the present study. PRL levels were detected by using chemiluminoassay method.

Results: We showed that the mean PRL values of the patients with OCD did not differ than those of healthy control subjects (11.84±6.45 mg/dL for the patients with OCD vs. 13.92±10.89 mg/dL for the healthy controls).

Conclusion: In summary, the present results suggest that the PRL values of the patients with OCD were not different than those of the healthy control subjects. It is required to perform novel investigations, with larger number of samples.
