There has been increasing interest in prediction of operative mortality and resource use after cardiac surgery. Various risk scores have been developed to predict mortality after heart surgery. The Euroscore system is one of the recent risk score systems, which is widespreadly used. The purpose of this study was to investigate the results of 200 cardiac operations performed by using cardiopulmonary bypass which use system. The Euroscore scoring system applied to three risk groups. The low risk group (0-2 score) had 93 patients with 1 death, the median risk group (3-5 score) had 66 patients with 2 deaths and the high risk group (Euroscore 6 plus) had 41 patients with 5 deaths. Overall, there were 8 deaths (4 %) in 200 patients. The Euroscore system can be used as a risk stratification system for the prediction of hospital mortality.
