The aim of this review is to evaluate the urinary tract infections under the lights of recent knowledges. The microorganisms causing urinary tract infections varies depending upon the presence of predisposing factors and the environment from which the infection is acquired. In about 95 % of the urinary tract infection cases only one infectious agent is responsible. In chronical infections of patients with neurogenic bladder, vesico-enteric fistula and patients on long term catheterisation two or more than two microorganism might be responsible.

Acces of microorganism to the urinary tract, their virulence, dynamic interference with the host, environmental factors, presence of complicating factors and environmental factors are among the factors determining development of infections in the urinary tract. Clinical aspects of the infection varies depending upon localization and intensity of the infection. The symptoms of lower urinary tract infections depends upon the irritation of the bladder and urethral mucosa. In upper urinary tract infections fever, tremor, nousia and pain in costo-lumbal region associated with pollacuria, dysuria, and urgency are among the sypmtoms.

Urinary infection diagnosis should be based on evaluation of history, physical and laboratory findings. Eradication of diseases presents the aim of the treatment. Selection of antibacterial treatment is made on patients sex, presence or absence of predispozing factors, the duration of symptoms, urinary culture results and localization of urinary system infection. In addition to antibacterial treatment predisposing factors effecting infection should be eliminated.
