Objective: The aim of this study is to examine the depression level and sexual dysfunction of breast cancer patients.

Materials and Methods: This descriptive-type study was conducted between February 2020 – June 2022. The population of the study consisted of breast cancer patients hospitalized in the General Surgery and Oncology Services of Fırat University Hospital. The sample of the study consisted of a total of 111 breast cancer patients selected from this universe by random sampling method. Personal Information Form, Beck's Depression Inventory (BDI), and Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) were used in collecting the data. Descriptive statistics, ANOVA test, t-test, Mann-Whitney U test and correlation analysis tests were used in assessing the data.

Results: The depression level of breast cancer patients included in the study was found to be low, with a mean total score of 14.99±11.07. The FSFI score average was found to be low as 39.22±22.17. An examination of the relationship between the BDI and FSFI scores of the patients involved in the study found that there was a moderately significant correlation between them in a negative direction (p: 0.001).

Conclusion: The level of sexual function was determined to decrease as the level of depression increased. In order to increase the effectiveness of the treatment in nursing care for breast cancer patients, it may be recommended to plan, implement and evaluate nursing interventions that will reduce the level of depression in patients and to use education and counseling programs for sexual dysfunction.
