Hematological complications of varicella infection are rarely seen. In this case report, six-year-old male child presented generalized petechiae and purpuric lesions by the eight day of the illness seemed to be improving.Thrombocyte count was 900/mm³, prothrombin time, partial thromboplastin time, direct Coombs and other blood tests were found normal. Thrombocytes were seen rare and one by one in the peripheric smear. The diagnosis of the patient was considered as immune thrombocytopenic purpura following varicella. Thrombocyte count was increased to 130000/mm³ by the day of second dose intravenous immunoglobulin therapy and increased day by day. No decrease was seen during the six months follow up of the case. As a consequence, immune thrombocytopenic purpura can be seen as a complication after a varicella infection and it responds to intravenous immunoglobulin therapy very well and rapidly.
