Erectile dysfunction affects approximately 10 to 20 million men between the ages 17 and 92 in the United States. It becomes more frequent with age, but is not an inevitable consequence of normal aging. Impotence impairs sexual performance, diminishes self- esteem, and disrupts personal relationships.

Current treatments for erectile dysfunction include vacuum pumps, vascular surgery, penile prosthesies, intracavernosal injections, transurethral and oral medications. Vacuum pumps may be difficult for some men to use and may cause penile trauma if used improperly. The success rate of vascular surgery ranges from 31 to 80 percent. The implantation of a penile prosthesis is invasive, expensive and irreversible and can cause penile deformity. The aim of this study is to point out then current medical treatment of men with erectile dysfunction.
