Hypospadias, is a relatively common genital anomaly occurring in 0.3-7 of 1,000 live male births. It is considered a complex disorder with both genetic and environmental factors involved in the pathogenesis. In this study, we present the results of a cytogenetic analysis performed on 23 hypospadias cases who were referred to our laboratory. We found normal karyotype (46,XY) in 20 cases, inv(9) in two cases and dup(3) in one case. It is a low incidence of chromosomal anomalies in most of cases with isolated hypospadias. But, when patients have additional congenital abnormalities, the incidence of chromosomal aberrations is higher and in these cases it is recommend routine karyotyping.
